Grannick's Bitter Apple®
Grannick's Bitter Apple®
Grannick's
Grannick's Bitter Apple has been stopping unwanted chewing since 1960, and there's a reason it's still the most recognized product of its kind in the world. It started with a Connecticut pharmacist named Irv Grannick, who mixed up a bitter formula in his own kitchen to help calm a nervous show dog that kept chewing and licking its coat. That original recipe has outlasted every copycat that's tried to follow it. Just spray it on furniture, shoes, cables, fur, or even bandages and hot spots to discourage licking during healing, and the bitter taste does the rest. It's non-toxic and safe for use on your dog's skin and fur, though it does contain a small amount of alcohol in its water-based formula, so avoid the eyes and test fabric or furniture surfaces before spraying.

When a product has been around since 1960 and is still the one people reach for, that tells you something. Grannick's Bitter Apple® was born out of a genuine need, mixed up by a pharmacist who just wanted to help a nervous dog stop chewing, and it's been the go-to deterrent ever since. I recommend it because it actually works, it's non-toxic, and it's safe to use on fur, bandages, and hot spots. When clients ask me what to do about chewing, this is always the first thing I reach for. ~Bradley
