The Sidekick
The Sidekick
Heathers Heroes
The Sidekick is a slip lead and a head halter in one tool. That combination is what makes it so effective for teaching leash manners and managing reactivity. When your dog focuses on another dog, a person, or a squirrel, a standard leash gives you almost no way to redirect their focus. The Sidekick uses gentle head guidance to turn your dog's attention back to you before the reaction takes over. Where the head goes, the body follows. That's the whole principle, and it's the difference between reacting to your dog's behavior and preventing it.
For everyday leash manners, the slip function gives you clear, consistent communication. Your dog learns that pressure means slow down or check in, and a loose leash means keep going. No mixed signals, no tug-of-war.
It's made from soft, flexible nylon rope that moves with your dog instead of digging in, so no chafing and no sore spots. A comfortable dog pays attention to you. An uncomfortable one pays attention to whatever is bothering them. A built-in safety clip attaches directly to your dog's collar as backup, so even if the nose loop comes off, your dog is still secure. Available in Mini (1/4", dogs under 25 lbs) and Regular (3/8", dogs over 25 lbs), in 6-foot and 8-foot lengths with a 10-inch handle.

We Also Recommend

I recommend Heather's Heroes because The Sidekick actually solves the leash-reactivity problem instead of just managing it. The nose loop redirects your dog's focus back to you before a reaction takes over, and a built-in safety clip backs up to the collar so there's no escape risk. It's gentle enough for dogs of any temperament, and it's used by professional trainers for a reason: it works. I recommend it to clients who want real progress on leash manners without a tool that fights their dog. ~Bradley
